GOLDEN JUBLIEE CELEBERATION AT KENGKHAR LOWER SECONDARY SCHOOL

Kengkhar Lower Secondary School was established in 1963. The first batch of students was from Kengkhar Gewog only (including Jurmey Gewog which was bifurcated as separate Gewog in early 2000). As per the assumption of the present school management, approximately  1500 students had passed out from the school. The alumni serving in different parts of the country in various capacity including prominent figures like Member of Parliament, Doctors, Engineers, and businessman private sectors.

On December 17th 2013, people from the Kengkhar Gewong have been gathered at the Kengkhar Lower Secondary School to celebrate the National Day. On this day, village folks come every year to the school to witness the program of the National Day and to offer their prayers to His Majesty the King and to thank our past monarchs for their dedicated services to people and nation. The only difference they could witness this year is that they are joined by alumni of the school. They only knew in the morning that the school is to celebrate Golden Jubilee-50 years' journey of the school.

In the past fifty years, it has its own share of ups and downs; the school was downgraded a few times. The accurate information like precise years of such occurrences couldn’t be obtained due to limited time while writing this article. However, more than 60 alumni brought indebtedness feelings in people’s hearts, seeing that school has traveled far greater than what they have thought. Some of the parents of alumni told that they never had time to thank the school for making their sons and daughters stand on their own feet. They said this day has given an opportunity to thank His Majesty the King and wise leaders for the school in the village which has been an eye for their kids'life.

The program started receiving chief guest, Ven. Khenchen Katayana, a well-respected religious figure in Bhutan and in our village. In his welcome remark, the school principal highlighted the importance of the day and thanked everybody for participating in the celebration. He made particular mention to the alumni for coming all the way from different parts of the country to celebrate the Golden Jubilee. Amongst alumni, Hon’ble Member of Parliament of Kengkhar - Werringla Constituency Mr. Rinzin Jamtsho addressed the gathering underlining the importance of celebrating the National Day and Golden Jubilee. After the program initiated by the school such as cultural performance, the Chief Guest consecrated the clock tower built with financial assistance from alumni. It was also a significant day for rural folks as Khenchen participated in the opening ceremony of electricity connection to the village. The alumni also handed over library books to the school.

After serving  ‘TOKHA’ to the public by alumni, the Health Checkup campaign was conducted by alumni working in the health sector.

Two days prior to the golden jubilee celebration, the alumni attended “Annual Phurpai Drubchen”  at the Dungkhar Gonpa Monastery and donated 0.14 million to supplement in conducting annual Drubchen.

I would like to thank the Management of Gewog Administration, the Kenngkhar Lower Secondary School, BHU, and to all the alumni and other Kengkharpas for your kind support in making this event successful. This event would have remained as regretted dream to all of us had we not go ahead despite of many odds.
